It is of significance to analyze recession process of storm flood for the operation and regulation of hydraulic engineering and the formulation of hydrological forecast scheme.Based on hourly recorded data of 102 storm floods of Qingliu River, the paper analyzed the characteristics of flow recession of storm floods,and then simulated recession process by using the exponential formula.Results show that the size of the flow are associated with duration, peak discharge of storm floods.The starting recession discharge is between 12m3/s and 303m3/s.While the recession coefficients vary from 0.01 to 0.0435.Recession coefficients of storm floods with long duration usually tend to be smaller than that of flash storm floods. The exponential recession can better simulate recession process.
