In the light of the problem of ammonia and hydrogen concentration being high in effluent of wastewater treatment plant during winter, the paper researched the electrolytic removal of ammonia and hydrogen by using activated carbon packed three dimensional electrolysis reactor in batch mode. The influence of initial ammonia and hydrogen concentration, current density, chloride concentration and pH on removal effect were studied under various conditions. The results showed that the removal rate of ammonia hydrogen enhances with the increase of current density and chloride concentration. Moreover, the energy consumption per unit enhances with the increases of current but decreases with the increase of chloride concentration. pH within the range of 3.0~9.0 has little effect on ammonia and hydrogen removal. The treatment of actual wastewater showed that 28.0 mg/L ammonia can be reduced to 0.3 mg/L after the treatment of 2.5 h.The removal rate reached 99%, which can meet the First Grade A discharge standard of municipal wastewater.
