Aimed at the pollution problem of substance that cause odor in water has been greatly concerned by many people in recent days, the paper investigated the removal of odor-causing substance such as 2-methyl isobutyl(2-MIB) by Fenton advanced oxidation process, and studied the effectiveness of the Fenton oxidation, the effect of various factors such H2O2:Fe2+ molar ratio, Fe2+ concentration, reaction time and solution pH on removal efficiency. The optimum condition of Fenton advanced oxidation process for removal of 2-MIB was proposed. In summary, Fenton oxidation is effective for removing 2-MIB. Removal efficiency reached as high as 97.9% at conditions of H2O2/Fenton ratio of 3.0, Fe2+ concentration of 10 mg/L with reaction time of 10 min and solution pH of 3.0. Overall, these conditions are relatively easy to realize which means that Fenton process shows wider promise in the treatment of pollutant.
