              Abstract:Atpresent,somehigharchdamprojectsinthedomesticandoverseashavealreadyexperiencedthe
              phenomenonofvalleydeformationafterimpoundment ,whichnotonlyaffectsthechangeofarchdamproper
              ties,butalsohasbeenproventoaffectthenormaloperationofthedownstreamenergydissipationbuildings.In
              ordertoanalyzetheeffectofvalleydeformationontheoperationofenergydissipationbuildingsinBaihetan
              HydropowerStation ,weadoptedtheboundarydisplacementmethodforthefiniteelementanalysis,simulated
              thestressstateoftheplungepoolwithaninvertedarchslabundermaintenancecondition(nowater)andnor
              maloperationconditionwithdifferentvalleydeformationamplitudes ,andanalyzedtheeffectofdifferentar
              rangementsofelasticjointsonthestressstateoftheplungepoolundertheeffectofvalleydeformation.There
              sultsshowthatwiththeincreaseofvalleydeformation,thestressofthepoolalsoincreases;whenthevalley
              deformationofthetopofthepoolislessthanorequalto50mm,thesafetyoftheplungepoolwithaseamless
              structureisincontrol ,andtheimpoundmentcanfurtherreducetheinfluenceofvalleydeformationonthead
              versestressofthepoolstructure,whereasthesettingofelasticjointsmayincreaseitsadversestress.
