Abstract:Waterconservationisanessentialserviceforterrestrialecosystem,whichplaysanimportantrole
inwatersupply ,runoffregulation,andwatermitigation.However,currentresearchesonwaterconservation
inriverheadwaterareasarerarelyreported ,especiallythestudyofspatiotemporalevolutionofwaterconser
vationoveralongperiodoftime.ThisstudyadoptstheWEP-Ldistributedhydrologicalmodelandthewa
terbalanceequationtoanalyzethewaterconservationintheheadwaterareaoftheGanjiangRiveranditsin
fluencingfactorsduring1957-2018.Theresultsshowthattheannualmeanwaterconservationis552.3
mmintheheadwaterareaoftheGanjiangRiveroverthestudyperiod ,withagrowthrateof0.85mm/a.
Theannualwaterconservationrangesfrom44.2to1178.6mm ,characterizedbyagreaterdistributionin
thenorthandsouthandasmallerdistributioninthewest.Thevariationtrendofwaterconservationinthe
studyarearangesfrom -1.99to5.45mm/a,whichishighinthenorthandlowinthesouth.Thecoeffi
cientofvariationchangesintherangeof0.27-2.91,with82.68% ofthearealowerthan0.55,indica
tingrelativelysmallfluctuations.Precipitationisthemainfactorinfluencingthespatiotemporalvariationsof
waterconservation.Thisstudycanprovideatechnicalsupportforwaterresourcesandecologicalprotection.
