Abstract:RiverecologicaldroughtsinthemiddleandlowerreachesoftheYellowRiverarebecomingin
creasinglysevere,posingsignificantchallengestowaterresourcesmanagementandecologicalprotection
intheregion.Toassesstheriverecologicaldroughtconditions ,thisstudycalculatestheecologicalwater
demandatsixhydrologicalstationsintheresearchareausingtheTennantmethod,Q method,minimum
p
monthlyaverageflowmethod,andannualdistributionmethod.Additionally,thestandardizedrivereco
logicaldroughtindex (REDI)isconstructedtoevaluatetheecologicaldroughtstatusoftherivers.Fur
thermore ,thestudyemploysKendalltrendanalysis,M-Kabruptchangetest,andMorletwaveletanaly
sistoinvestigatetheevolutioncharacteristicsofdroughtacrossmultipletimescalesinthewatershed.The
resultsindicatethatthedegreeofecologicaldroughtatvarioushydrologicalstationsgenerallyshowsasig
nificantintensifyingtrendontheannualscale ,sodoesthatontheseasonalscale,exceptforafewsea
sonsindifferentstations.Theyearsofdroughtabruptchangeontheannualscalemainlydistributeinthe
1970sand1980s ,whilethoseontheseasonalscalevarybystations.Thereisasignificantdifferencein
thefirstprincipalperiodoftheriverecologicaldroughtindexbetweenannualandseasonalscales.
