              Abstract:Basedontheconceptofspongecityconstruction,theeffectsoffilterelementseepagewellsonthe
              runoffreductionwerestudiedunderdifferentunderlyingsurfacesusingaselfdesignedrainfallsimulator,and
              monitoringwellswerearrangedtorecordthewaterlevelchangesfortheevaluationoftheseepageperformance
              ofthefilterelementseepagewell.Theexperimentalresultsshowedthatthearrangementofthefilterelement
              seepagewellscaneffectivelyincreasesoilpermeabilityandreducetheaccumulationofsurfacerunoff.When
              thesoildepthisconstant ,thevolumetricmoisturecontentofsoildecreaseswiththeincreaseofhorizontal
              spacing ;whenthehorizontalspacingisconstant,thevolumetricmoisturecontentofsoildecreaseswiththein
              creaseofthesoildepth.Tosomeextent ,theconclusionverifiesthatthefilterelementseepagewellcanim
              provethesoilinfiltrationefficiencyandreducesurfacerunoff.Thisapproachcanprovideatheoreticalbasis
              andtechnicalsupportfortheconstructionofspongecityandthereconstructionofoldresidentialareas.
