Abstract:Themethodofclosenessdegreewasusedtomeasurewaterresourcescarryingcapacityofcities
alongthemiddleandlowerreachesoftheYellowRiver,soastoinvestigatethespatialcharacteristicsand
functionmechanismofwaterresourcesclosenessdegree.Theresultsshowthatthecarryingcapacityofur
banwaterresourcesinthemiddleandlowerreachesoftheYellowRiverisgenerallylow ,resultinginthe
acutecontradictionbetweenthesupplyanddemandofurbanwaterresourcesinmostcitiesinthisarea ,
especiallytheonesinthelowerreaches.Fromtheperspectiveofspatialstructurecharacteristics,thewa
terresourcescarryingcapacityof31citiesalongtheYellowRiverpresentsspatialautocorrelationcharac
teristicsasawhole,andmostcitiesshownodifferentiationcharacteristics,exceptthatthereareafewhot
spotsinsomecitiesinthemiddlereachesofthebasinandsomelowlyingareasinsomecitiesinthelow
erreaches,especiallyinHenanProvince.Theanalysisofthespatialfunctionmechanismofurbanwater
resourcescarryingcapacityclosenessshowsthattheurbanwaterresourcescarryingcapacityinthemiddle
reachesofthebasinisaffectedbyfivefactors ,namely,drivingforce(D),pressure(P),state
(S),influence(I)andmanagement(M).Moreover,waterresourcesisinastateofspatialcompe
titionratherthanspatialcoordinateddevelopment ,duetothespatialsiphoneffectbetweencities.Howev
er,theurbanwaterresourcescarryingcapacityinthelowerreachesisonlyaffectedbyD,SandI.The
researchresultscanprovidesomereferenceforthedecisionmakingofstrengtheningwaterresourcesman
