Abstract:Toavoidthewashoutlossofsolidifiedsiltinunderwaterapplications,themainfactorsthataf
fectthewashoutresistanceofsolidifiedsiltareanalyzedandthegroutviscosityisadoptedtoquantifythe
washoutresistancebasedonunderwatertests.Testresultsindicatethattheviscosityistheintrinsicfactor
andthegroutingheightistheextrinsicfactorthataffectthewashoutresistanceofsolidifiedsilt.Thegrea
tertheviscosityandthesmallerthegroutingheight ,thegreaterthewashoutresistanceofthesolidified
silt.HPMCismoresuitableforunderwatersolidifiedsiltthanGGandPAMduetoitshighthickeningef
fectiveness ,andthepHandtransmissivitymethodscanbeusedtocharacterizeitsperformanceonwash
outresistance.Bothfallingandcollisionaldiffusionswilloccurwhentheviscosityissmallerthan3.7
Pa ·s,onlycollisionaldiffusionwillhappenwhentheviscosityisvaryingfrom3.7to22.0Pa·s,but
nodiffusionisspottedwhentheviscosityisgreaterthan22.0Pa ·s.Solidifiedsiltwithviscosityvarying
from3.7to22Pa·sandgroutingheightsmallerthan30cm isrecommendedforunderwaterapplica
tions.
