Abstract:Reducingwaterconsumptionandwaterenvironmentpollutionwhilepromotingeconomicgrowth
isanimportantwaytoachieveecologicalprotectionandhighqualitydevelopmentintheYellowRiverBa
sin.Basedonthewaterfootprinttheoryandmethod ,wemeasuredthewaterconsumptionandwaterenvi
ronmentpollution,andusedtheTapiodecouplingindexmodeltoexaminethedegreeofdecouplingofwa
terquantity (quality)footprintandeconomicdevelopmentintheYellowRiverBasin.Theresultsshowed
thatthewaterquantityfootprintpresentedanoverallupwardtrendfrom2000to2019 ,withthegreatest
waterdemandseeninagriculturalproduction.Waterenvironmentpollutionhadbeensystematicallyad
dressedandthewaterqualityfootprintfluctuatedinadownwardtrend.Waterquantity(quality)footprint
andeconomicdevelopmentweremostlyinrelativeandweakdecouplingstatus ,andthedecouplingstatus
ofwaterqualitywasbetterthanthatofthewaterquantity,butneitherwasoptimallydecoupled.Water
quantityfootprint ,waterqualityfootprintandthedecouplingofthetwofromeconomicdevelopmentwere
significantlydifferentiatedfromregiontoregionintheYellowRiverBasin.Thewaterquantityfootprint
andwaterqualityfootprintindescendingorderwereasfollows :downstream,midstreamandupstream.
Thewaterfootprintwasbetterdecoupledfromeconomicdevelopmentintheupstreamanddownstreamare
asthanthatinthemidstream,andtheorderofdecouplingofwaterqualityfootprintfromhightolowwas:
