Abstract:Thisstudyinvestigatesthehuman-waterrelationshipintheendorheicregionofJunggarBasin
from1900s-2010susingmultisourcedataandmethods.Theresultsindicatethathighdensityareasof
settlementsandwatersystemshavesynergisticallyexpandednorthward ,exhibitingaspatialpatternof
phasedfluctuationofweakened-enhanced-weakenedclustering.Therearesignificantspatialandtem
poraldifferencesintheevolutionofsettlementandwatersystem densitiesacrossdifferentriverbasins.
Drivenbywaterconservancymodernization ,thecorrelationbetweensettlementsandwatersystemsin
creasedsignificantlyduringthe1960s ,whiletheirnaturaltemporalcouplingwasweakened.Fromspatial
perspective,therelationshipbetweenwatersystemsandsettlementspresentedasynergisticevolutionary
processofenhancedagglomerationandscaling.Waterconservancymodernizationimpactedthespatial
distributionandinterrelationshipofwatersystemsandsettlementsatbothoasisandbasinscales.Thewa
terconservancymodernizationinitiativesofthe1950s-1960shadprofoundeffectsonsettlementsandwa
tersystems ,alteringhydrologicalsystemsandprocesses,whichinturninfluencedhydroecologyandhu
mansettlementenvironments.Theseimpactsshouldbeconsideredinoasisecologicalconstruction.
