                Abstract:TheBashangregionofHebeiProvinceplaystheroleofecologicalbarrierandwaterconservation
                areafortheJing-Jin-Jiregion;however,themaincashcropssuchasvegetablesandpotatoesinthisre
                gionmainlyrelyongroundwaterirrigation ,especiallytheplasticgreenhousecrops,whichareentirelyde
                pendentongroundwater.Thishasledtoexcessiveconsumptionofgroundwaterresourcesanddegradation
                oftheecologicalenvironment.Inordertoalleviatethisproblemandrespondtothenationalrequirements
                fortheconstructionof “twozones”andruralrevitalization,weproposedanalternativeirrigationscheme
                forgreenhousekidneybeansintheBashangregionbasedontherainwaterharvestingsystem.Thecostef
                fectivenessofdifferenttypesofrainwaterharvestingsystems (simpletank,galvanizedpaneltank,andfi
                berglassreinforcedplastictank)wereexaminedunderdifferentvolumesofgroundwatersupplementaryirri
                gationbywaterbalanceprincipleandPythonmodelling.Theresultsshowedthatusingthecostoffull
