                 Abstract:Underdrying-wettingcyclicconditions,thelongtermstabilityofslopesfilledbyspoilfrom
                 ditchexcavationneedspecialattention.ThisstudyfocusesonthestabilityofaspoilslopeinGuangdong
                 Province.Laboratorytriaxialsheartestswereconductedundervariousnumbersofdrying-wettingcycles
                 andcompactionlevelstoobtaintheshearstrengthparametersofthespoilunderdifferentconditions.
                 Basedontheexperimentaldata ,amodifiedstrengthmodelintegratingdrying-wettingcyclesandcom
                 pactioneffectswasdeveloped ,whichwasthenusedtostudytheimpactofdrying-wettingcyclesonthe
                 longtermstabilityofspoilslopes.Thestudyfindsthatthestrengthofcompactedspoildecreaseswiththe
                                                                                            =20kPa,the
                 increaseofthedrying-wettingcycles.Forexample ,withsamplesatK=0.96andσ 3
                 peakstrengthofthespoildecreasedby21.9%,33.8%,40.8%,and43.1% after2,4,6,and8dr
                 ying-wettingcycles,respectively.Overall,thestrengthtendstostabilizeafter6to8cycles.Although
                 thesafetyfactorofthespoilslopeisrelativelyhighintheearlystagesofembankmentconstruction,itbe
                 comesinsufficientwithincreasingdrying-wettingcycles.Therefore ,itisessentialtotakeacertainsafe
                 tymarginintoaccountinthedesignofspoilsites,particularlywhentherearecriticalfacilitiesdown
                 stream.Thefindingsprovidevaluableinsightsintothesafetymargindesignofexcavatedspoilsites.
