Abstract:Inordertoexplorethemutualfeedbackmechanismofyieldandwaterindryorchardsinnorth
ernShaanxiProvince,appleorchardsinfourcountiesofBaota,Luochuan,Suide,andZizhouareselect
edforthecasestudy.Thedynamicsoforchardyieldandsoilmoistureweresimulatedandanalyzedbased
ontheWinEPICmodelunderdifferentprecipitationlevelsfrom1980to2018.Meanwhile ,theimpactof
watersupplyontheyieldofappletreesofdifferentages ,soilmoistureandwaterstresswereinvestigated
toanalyzetheappropriatewatersupplyquotasandplantingyearsforappletreesunderdifferentprecipita
tionlevelsinnorthernShannxi.Theresultsshowedthattheaverageannualorchardyieldunderhistorical
precipitationwasconsistentlyhigherthanthatunderconsecutivenormalprecipitationandmoderatelydry
precipitation.Thefluctuationsofwaterproductivityweregreaterinthemoderatelydryprecipitationyears
thanthatinthenormalprecipitationyears ,indicatingthatcontinuouswatershortageexacerbatedthein
terannualinstabilityofwateruseefficiencyintheorchard.Theorchardsaged4to25yearsinSuideand
Zizhouperformedbetterintermsofyieldstability ,highyield,andsustainabilityunderconsecutivenor
malprecipitationandmoderatelydryprecipitation.Thedeepsoilmoisturedecreasedwiththeageofthe
treesandtendedtograduallydecreasetowiltingpoint ,especiallyunderconsecutivemoderatelydrypre
cipitation.Thewaterstresscausedbyconsecutivenormalprecipitationormoderatelydryprecipitationwas
