Abstract:HeavymetalCr(VI)isoneofthemainsourcesofwaterpollution.Inordertoenhancetheutili
zationleveloflandscapewasteresourcesandsearchfornewcarbonbasedadsorbentmaterials ,boxwood
branchbiocharwaspreparedanditsadsorptionmechanismforCr ( Ⅵ)inaqueoussolutionswasinvestiga
ted.BatchadsorptionexperimentswereconductedtostudytheeffectsofinitialpH,adsorptiontemperature
andadsorptiontimeonthebiocharadsorptionofCr( Ⅵ).Theadsorptionmechanismswereanalyzedbythe
characterizationmethodssuchasBET-N,SEM-EDS,FTIRandXPS,alongwiththeanalysisofchan

gesinCr ( Ⅵ)valencestatesbeforeandafteradsorption.ResultsindicatethattheoptimalpHvalueforCr
( Ⅵ)removalusingboxwoodbranchbiocharis2,themostfavorableadsorptiontemperatureis55℃,and
anadsorptiontimeof3.0hoursleadstoaCr( Ⅵ)removalefficiencyofnearly100%.Chemisorptionisthe
predominantadsorptionmode,withthemechanismsprimarilyinvolvingoxidationreductionreactions,com
plexationandelectrostaticinteractions.Boxwoodbranchbiocharproducedvialowtemperaturepyrolysisre
presentsanovelandhighlyefficientcarbonbasedadsorbentmaterial.Itcannotonlyelevatetheresource
recyclingrateoflandscapewastebutalsoofferaviablesolutionforthetreatmentofheavymetalCr ( Ⅵ).
