Abstract:Theeffectsofdifferentbiocharadditionsonwatertransportinredsoilswereinvestigatedbyan
indoorsoilcolumnsimulationtest.Fivegroupswithbiochardosageratesof1% (T1),2% (T2),3%
(T3),4% (T4),and5% (T5)wereset,alongwithacontrolgroupwithoutbiochar(CK).Theanal
ysisfocusedontheeffectsofthesetreatmentsonwetfront(Z),cumulativeinfiltration(I),andsoil
f
moisturecontent ,andtheperformanceofdifferentinfiltrationmodelswasevaluatedbyfittingtheinfiltra
tionprocess.Accordingtothetestresults ,wetfrontmigrationinitiallydecreased,thenstabilized,and
subsequentlydeclinedasthebiocharcontentincreased;themaximumwetfrontmigrationwasobservedin
T1at44.2cm ,whiletheminimumwasseeninT5at18.1cm.ComparedtotheCKgroup,wetfront
migrationdecreasedby23.3% and26.3% inT3andT4,respectively.Cumulativeinfiltrationalsoex
hibitedthesamevariationtrendasthewetfrontmigration ,withmaximuminfiltrationinCKat84.3cm
andminimuminT5at26.0cm;whilethatforT3andT4weremeasuredat30.4cmand30.1cm,re
spectively.SoilwatercontentwashigherintreatmentgroupscomparedtotheCKgroup ,indicatingthat
biocharcanimprovesoilwaterretentionperformance.ItwasfoundthattheKostiakovmodelhadthebest

fittingeffectwhencomparingtheRRMSEandR resultsofdifferentmodels.Theseresultscanprovide
valuableinsightsforeffectivewatermanagementpracticesinhillyredsoilregions.
