                 Abstract:Defectsingeomembranessignificantlycontributetoleakageinimpermeablereservoirs,theas
                 sessmentofreservoirleakagerelatedtogeomembranedefectsremainsexperimental ,withnoreportedre
                 searchonmethodsforestimatingdefectiveleakageinimpermeablereservoirs.Anumericalsimulationin
                 versionmodelfordeterminingthepermeabilitycoefficientofdefectivegeomembranelayersinimpermeable
                 reservoirswasdevelopedbasedonthelocalizationofmacroscopicdefectsandmonitoringdata.Subse
                 quently ,anumericalsimulationmethodwasproposedtoestimatedefectiveleakageingeomembraneim
                 permeablereservoirs.Basedononsitemonitoringdata,thenumericalsimulationinversionresultsshow

                 thatthepermeabilitycoefficientofthedefectivegeomembraneimpermeablelayerwas5.0 ×10 m/s,

                 correspondingtotheareaof4m.Thetotalseepageflowandtheflowofperunitwidthsectiondueto
                 geomembranedefectswerebothinfluencedbythereservoirwaterlevel.Atamaximum reservoirwater

                 depthof14.4meters,thereservoirleakagereachedabout857m /d.Furthermore,therewasadiscerni
                 bleinfluencerange ,withtheleakageofperunitwidthsectiondecreasingasthedistancefromthecenter
                 ofthedefectcenterincreased.Theresearchprovidesanapproachforleakageevaluationandsafeopera
                 tionofgeomembranereservoirsinpracticalapplications.
