               Abstract:Inordertoclarifythegenerationandpropagationcharacteristicsoflandslidegeneratedwavesin
               narrowreservoirareas,theinfluenceoflandslideimpactingvelocityonthewavecharacteristicsandreservoir
               structureisinvestigated,takingthepotentiallandslideNo.1intheYangquReservoirasanexample.The
               wholeprocessoflandslidegeneration ,developmentandpropagationisanalyzedusingathreedimensional
               numericalmodel ,whichisthenverifiedbyaphysicalmodelwithaproportionalscaleof1∶200.Theresults
               showthatthetimelineofthewavessimulatedbythethreedimensionalnumericalmodelagreeswellwith
               thatbythephysicalmodel,andthewaveheightsmeasuredatthegenerationlocationandinfrontofthedam
               areconsistentwiththesimulationresults.Innarrowreservoirs ,theheightoftheleadingwavedecreases
               withtheincreaseofthevelocity ,anditisnotnecessarilythehighestamongthewaves.Noobviousdamping
               isfoundfortheleadingwaveduringthepropagationfromthelandslidetothedam ,butitcontributeslittleto
               thetotalovertoppingvolume,becausethepeakoftheovertoppingdischargeappearsmuchlaterthanthe
               leadingwave ,whichisprobablyduetothemultiplescatteringofwavesnearthedam.
