Abstract:Theinstallationofpassiveprotectionnetsisaneffectivemeasureforpreventingandcontrolling
rockfalldisastersonslopes.Designingpassiveprotectionnetsthatareeffective ,accurate,andeconomicalis
ofgreatsignificanceforenhancingthecomprehensivedisasterpreventionandmitigationcapabilitiesofthe
societyasawhole.Toaddressfrequentrockfalldisasters ,adiscreteelementbaseddesignmethodofpassive
protectionnetsforsloperockfalldisastersisdeveloped.Byestablishingthedetaileddiscreteelementmodels
oftheslope,rockfall,andpassiveprotectionnet,indicatorssuchasrockmovementtrajectory,numberof
interceptedrocks,andinterceptionefficiencyareanalyzedtodeterminetheparametersofthepassiveprotec
tionnet ,suchasheightandlength.Thenthetypesuggestionofthepassiveprotectionnetisputforward
basedonthemonitoringofthespeedandimpactenergychangesoftherockfall.Accordingtotheanalysisof
thedeformationvariationoftheprotectionnetonvariouspositionsoftheimpactcrosssection ,themaximum
deformationpositionofthepassiveprotectionnetunderthebestprotectiveconditionisdetermined.Taking
theconstructionofareservoirroadatalargehydropowerstationasanexample ,thediscreteelementbased
designmethodforpassiveprotectionnetsisusedtoquantitativelyanalyzerockfalldisasters ,anditisdeter
minedthattheoptimallengthofthepassiveprotectionnetis30mandtheheightis5m ,withwhichthe
