                 Abstract:Rainfallisoneoftheleadingcausesofurbanfloodinundation,anddifferentrainfallcharacter
                 isticshavedifferentinfluencesontheurbanfloodinundationrisk.Inordertoinvestigatetheinfluences,
                 anurbanfloodinundationmodelofasoutherncityinChinawasestablishedtosystematicallyanalyzethe
                 influenceofdesignrainfallpatternanddurationcharacteristicsonurbanfloodsimulationresultswiththe
                 applicationoftheintegratedcatchmentmodel (InfoWorksICM).Toevaluatefloodinundationriskinthe
                 studyarea,3rainfallpatternsand3rainfalldurationunder4returnperiodswerechosenforthecombina
                 tionsofatotalof36differentdesignrainfallscenarios.Bycomparingtheresultsofthescenariosinterms
                 ofinundationdepth ,inundationareaandinundationvolume,itwasfoundthatunderthesamerainfall
                 patternandreturnperiod ,theinfluenceofrainfalldurationoninundationdepthvarieswithinacertain
                 range;inallscenariosofdifferentrainfallpatternsandduration,thelocationsoftheinundationsitesba
                 sicallyremainthesame;theinundationareaisaffectedbybothrainfallpatternsandduration,peakinun
                 dationvolumeisinfluencedmorebyrainfallpatternsthanbyrainfallduration ,buttotalinundationvol
                 umeisinfluencedmorebyrainfalldurationandlessbyrainfallpatterns.Thisstudyquantifiedtheinflu
                 enceofdifferentdesignrainfallcharacteristicsontheurbanfloodinundationsimulationresultswhichaims
                 toprovideatechnicalbasisforurbanfloodinundationearlywarningandemergencymanagement.
