Abstract:Thestudyofecologicalwaterdemandthresholdsisimportantforimprovingthediversity,sta
bility,andsustainabilityofriverecosystemsandthemanagementofriverecologicalwaterdemand.Inre
sponsetowaterandecologicalenvironmentalproblemssuchasrivercutoff ,severewaterpollution,and
highsedimentcontentintheGansusectionoftheYellowRiverBasin,theecologicalbaseflowiscalculat
edusingannualdistributionmethodbasedonthemonthlyrunoffdatafrom30hydrologicalstationsfrom
1956to2016,andthenintegratedwiththewaterdemandofselfpurificationandthesedimenttransportto
formthebasicecologicalflowaccordingtotheprincipleof“takingthebigone”.Meanwhile,thetarget
ecologicalflowisdeterminedbythemonthbymonthfrequencycalculationmethod.Finally,thedistribu
tioncharacteristicsofthebasicecologicalflowandtargetecologicalflowareintegratedtoobtaintheannu
alecologicalwaterdemandthresholdsfortherivers,whicharethengradedandevaluatedtoascertainthe
degreeofsatisfaction.Theresultsshowthattheecologicalwaterdemandthresholdsofthemainstreamof
