                 Abstract:Basedonthehourlyprecipitationdataof257densifiedrainfallstationsinHandanCityfrom
                2016to2021,thethresholdvalueofshorttermheavyrainfall( ≥20.0mm/h)isdeterminedbasedon
                 thesortingmethod,andthespatialandtemporaldistributioncharacteristicsofsummershorttermheavy
                 rainfallinHandanareanalyzed.Theresultsshowthattherewere16.3eventsofshorttermheavyrainfall
                 inHandanCityonaverage ,specifically,17.5eventsinthemountainousareaand15.6eventsinthe
                 plainarea ,whichmainlyoccurredfrommidJulytomidAugust.Theareaswithhighrainfallintensity
                 scatteredinthesouthcentralpartofthemountainousarea ,andthenorthandsouthwestpartoftheplain
                 area.Theextremevalueofrainintensityintheplainwas125.2mm/h(FengzhengTownship,Jize
                 County)and123.1mm/h(TaoquanTownship,CixianCounty)inthemountainousarea.Theprecipita
                 tioncorrespondingto50%,75%,95%,99% and99.5% quartileofhourlyrainfallintensitywere
                27.8,36.1,56.5,80.4and94.9mmrespectively.Thediurnalvariationofshorttermheavyrainfall
                 wascharacterizedby “doublepeaks”,withthehighestpeakat17:00-21:00andthesecondarypeakat
