Abstract:Temperatureisdirectlyaffectedbytheearth’senergyprocessandisanimportantindicatorof
climatechange ,theaccuratemeasurementandthegraspofspatiotemporaldistributionoftemperatureisof
greatsignificanceforthestudyofenergyprocessandclimatechange.Spatialinterpolationisanimportant
methodtoobtaintemperaturespatialdistribution ;however,terrainfluctuationsaffecttheinterpolationre
sultsgreatly ,whichrestrictstheaccuracyofestimateddataofspatialtemperature.Toaddresssuchchal
lenge ,weperformedacasestudytotesttemperatureinterpolationwithandwithoutconsideringterrain
fluctuationsintheLoessPlateauwithhugeelevationvariations.Basedonthetemperatureobservations
from33nationalmeteorologicalstationsandShuttleRadarTopographyMission(SRTM)digitalelevation
model (DEM)of1km,differencesbetweentemperaturevaluesinterpolatedwithandwithoutconsidering
terrainfluctuationsweresystematicallystudiedathourly,daily,andmonthlyscales,respectively.The
resultsshowthatatthesethreescales,theinterpolationresultsvarygreatlybeforeandafterterraincorrec
tion,andthedifferenceincreaseswiththeincreaseofelevation.Whentheelevationisbelow1,000m,
thetemperaturedifferencebeforeandafterterraincorrectionisrelativelysmall(themeanvalueisless
than0.5℃),whereasitcanreach3℃ whentheelevationexceeds2,000m,and6℃ whentheeleva
tionisgreaterthan3,000matmonthlyscale.Moreover,theinfluenceofelevationfluctuationsoninter
polationresultstendstoweakenwhenthetemporalscalechangesfromhourlytodailyandtomonthly.
