Abstract:Dambreakisatypeofcatastrophicprocesswithinstantaneousandhugedestructiveeffects,
whichcancausesuddenscouringandsiltingoftheriverbedandeveninstabilityandcollapseoftheriver
bankinthedownstream oftheriver.Inthisstudy ,atwodimensionalnumericalmodelbasedonthe
shapeofthenaturalchannelandtheactuallayoutoftheexistingspurdikegroupwasconstructedusing
theMIKE21FM software.Themainobjectivesofthisstudyaretosimulatethedownstream waterand
sedimenttransportprocessafterthesuddenfailureofthefirstpermeablespurdike ,andthentoanalyze
thechangesinriverbedshearstressandthealluvialcharacteristicsoftheriverbednearthespurdikes.
Theresultsshowthataftertheinstantaneousfailureofthefirstspurdike ,thefloodevolutionisinfluenced
bythedownstreamspurdikesandchangesitsprocess.However,thedambreakhaslittleeffectonthe
sedimenttransportcapacityofthemainchannel,butsignificantlyaffectstheincipientandsettlingmotions
ofsedimentintheareabetweenthespurdikes.Furthermore ,sincethebodyofthefirstspurdikeandthe
headofthesecondspurdikearethemostvulnerableareas ,acompositeconfigurationstructureofperme
ableandimpermeabledikesisrecommendedforthespurdikegrouplayouttoimproveitsstabilityduring
operation ,whichisimpermeabledikesforthefirstandsecondspurdikesandpermeabledikesfortherest
ofthedikegroup.
