Abstract:BasedonthemeasuredtopographydataofDongtingLakein2003and2011,apreviouscali
brated2Dhydrodynamicmodelwasadoptedtosimulatetheimpactoflaketopographicchangeonthe
floodprocessofDongtingLakeusingthe2003floodasanexample.Theresultsshowthatover40% to
pographyofthelakesubsidedmorethan0.10m ,especiallytheXiangjiangspillway,thetopographyof
itstalwegsubsidedby5.72m.Accordingtothesimulationofthe2003floodprocess,whentheflood
processwasdominatedbytheFourRivers,thefloodpeakwaterleveldecreasedbymorethan0.40and
0.20mintheSouthandWestDongtingLakeunderthetopographicconditionof2011comparedwiththat
of2003;butfortheEastDongtingLake,thewaterlevelonlydecreasedsignificantlyinthesouthernarea
withlargetopographicchanges.ThewatersurfacegradientdecreasedintheDoumizui-Chenglingjisec
tion ,butincreasedinthespillwayoftheSouthDongtingLake.Forthefloodprocessdominatedbythein
flowoftheYangtzeRiver ,thefloodpeakwaterlevelinDongtingLakedecreasedby0.15m,andthewa
tersurfacegradientchangedlittleintheDoumizui-ChenglingjisectionandtheSouthDongtingLake ,
