Abstract:Alleviatingthedependenceofeconomicgrowthonwaterresourcesconsumptioniscrucialto
thesustainabledevelopmentofurbanagglomerations.TakingthePearlRiverDeltaUrbanAgglomeration
astheresearchobject ,wediscusseditswaterresourcesloadindexfrom theoverallandurbandimen
sions ,analyzedthetemporalandspatialcharacteristicsofthedecouplingbetweeneconomicgrowthand
waterconsumptionusingtheTapiodecouplingmodel,andexploredthedrivingeffectofinfluencingfac
torsbasedonLMDI.TheresultsshowthatthewaterresourcesloadofthePearlRiverDeltaUrbanAg
glomerationwasrelativelyhighduringthestudyperiod.ExceptZhaoqing,HuizhouandJiangmen,the
waterresourcesloadoftheothersixcitiesallreachedgradeV ;thestrongandweakdecouplingstatusof
thePearlRiverDeltaUrbanAgglomerationaccountedfor98.9%,someofthecitiesshowedanalterna
tingstateofstrongandweakdecoupling;technologicaleffect,industrialstructureandwatersavingca
pacitywerethemaindrivingfactorsforthedecouplingofthePearlRiverDeltaUrbanAgglomeration,
whereasthebenefitsofunitwaterresourcesandpopulationsizeinhibitedthedecoupling.Thisstudycan
provideatheoreticalsupportforalleviatingthedependenceofurbaneconomicgrowthonwaterresources
andrealizingregionalsustainabledevelopment.
