                 Abstract:Waterresourcesareofvitalimportancetothedevelopmentofhumansociety.Masteringthe
                 ruleofriverrunoffchangesisthebasisforachievingsustainableuseofwaterresources.Thecurrentre
                 searchonrunoffchangesinvolvesthreeaspects,namely,theinterannualchangeofrunoff,theannual
                 distributioncharacteristicsofrunoff,andtheattributionanalysisofrunoffchanges.Basedonthemonthly
                 runoffdataofShengzhouStation (SZ),HuangzeStation(HZ)andHuashanStation(HS)from1980to
                2018,therunoffchangesinthemiddleandupperreachesoftheCao’eRiverareinvestigatedusingava
                 rietyofresearchmethods.Theresultsshowthattheannualaveragerunoffshowedadownwardtrend,
                 whichchangedthegreatestatHZ,followedbyHSandSZ.Theaveragerunoffofallthreestationsalso
                 changedseasonally,whichshowedasignificantdownwardtrendinspring,butthatofHZshowedasig
                 nificantupwardtrendinwinter.BothSZandHSexperiencedanabruptchangeinannualaveragerunoff
                 in2003 ,whereasHZhadnoobviousabruptchange.Thedistributionprocesscurveofrunoffindifferent
                 periodsshowedapatternof“threepeaks”withthecharacteristicsof“low-high-low”,whichhappened
                 inMarchtoApril ,JuneandAugusttoSeptember,respectively.ForSZandHS,humanactivitieswere
                 themainreasonforthereductionofrunoffduringthechangeperiod ,whereasthereductionofrainfallwas
                 responsibleforthatforHS.
