                 Abstract:OnthebasisoftheestablishedevaluationindexsystemsfortheYellowRiver(YR)water
                 qualityandcitysocialadaptability,theprincipalcomponentanalysismethodcombinedwithentropy
                 weightmethodwasappliedtoquantitativelyrevealtheevolutiontrendoftheYRwaterqualityandsocial
                 adaptabilityof11citiesalongtheYRfrom2012to2019 ,andthecouplingcoordinationtrendofthetwo
                 wasanalyzed.TheresultsshowedthatthemultiyearaverageYRwaterqualityinmostcitiesinthestudy
                 areawasgenerallygood ,exceptYunchengandHohhot,whichlaggedbehindbynutrientandorganicpol
                 lutionprimarily.Thesocialadaptabilityofmostcitiesshowedafluctuatingupwardtrend,Yunchengwas
                 stableatthelowestlevel,followedbyHeze,andweakeconomicsupportwasfoundtobethemainreason
                 forthelowlevelsocialadaptabilityofbothcities.Thetwosystems,i.e.,waterqualityandsocialadapt
                 ability ,weregenerallyingoodcouplingandintermediatecoordinatedstate,andtheYRwaterqualitysys
                 temhadthepotentialtocarrythesocialandeconomicdevelopmentofthecitiesalongtheYR,buttheso
                 cialadaptabilitysystemfellshortingeneratingenoughsocialrestorationinresponsetothepotentialwater
                 environmentdeteriorationoftheYR.Heze,HohhotandYinchuanwereprimarilycoordinated,Yuncheng
                 wasbarelycoordinated ,andthereexistedonewayoreventwowayconstraintsbetweenthetwosystems.
