Abstract:ToclarifythebackwatercharacteristicsofbridgesintheupperreachesoftheYellowRiverandto
investigatethereliabilityofthenumericalsimulationmethodsinfloodcontrolcalculations ,sevenconsecutive
bridgesintheQingtongxia-ShizuishansectionoftheYellowRiver (hereinafterreferredtoasthe“Qing-Shi
section ”)intheNingxiaHuiAutonomousRegionwereselectedastheresearchobjectstoconstructatwodi
mensionalhydrodynamicmodelusingtheMIKE21hydrodynamicmodule.Thenthemodelwasappliedtothe
numericalsimulationandcomparativeanalysisofbackwatercharacteristicsofbridgesunderdifferentfloodfre
quencies.Theresultsshowthatinthecalibrationandverificationprocess ,therelativeerrorsbetweenthesim
ulatedandmeasuredvalueswerelessthan5%,theboundaryconstraintsandchannelroughnessshouldbede
terminedafterthecalibration.Thevelocityoftheriverchanneldecreasedwiththedecreaseofthefloodpeak
flow ,andthebackwaterofthebridgepiersfluctuatedintherangeof0.10-0.28m.Accordingtothecom
parativeanalysisofthesimulationresultsofthemodelandthecalculationresultsoftheempiricalformulas ,
thecalculatedresultsoftheHendersonformulawereingoodagreementwiththesimulationresultswhichpres
entedconsistentchangetrends ;whereasthoseofLuHao’sformulaoverestimatedthesituation.Thisstudy
canprovideanempiricalreferenceandtheoreticalbasisfortheinfluenceanalysisofbackwatercharacteristics
ofrivercrossingbuildingsandthefloodcontrolcalculationsofriverchannels.
