onblueandgreenwateraccounting

Abstract:Inordertoaccuratelydifferentiateandevaluatetheefficiencyofblueandgreenwaterusein
paddyricefields,theblueandgreenwaterdifferentiationmodelandwateruseefficiencyevaluationindex
systemwereestablishedbasedonthedailyexperimentalobservationofblueandgreenwaterinteraction
migrationprocessduringthewholecropseason.BlueandgreenwateruseofpaddyfieldsinNanjing,
Chinaunderdifferentprecipitationconditionswererevealed.Resultsshowedthatannualfieldwaterin
flowin2015-2018wasmeasuredtobe1 ,322.9mm(30.7% blue),572.3,246.0,and375.2mm
ofwhichweredischargedinformsofsurfacedrainage ,evapotranspirationandleakage.Green(GE)
andblue(BE)waterefficiencyinthewholegrowthperiodwerecalculatedas0.425and0.490,re
spectively,bothofwhichweresignificantlyhigherindroughtyearsthaninwetyears.Netblue(BP)

andgreen(GP)waterproductivitywere4.334and2.301kg/m,respectively,andthelatterwasin
significantlyaffectedbyprecipitation.BEandGPobtainedbyconventionalmethodwere46.2% and
29.7% higherthanthosecalculatedbytheproposedmethod.Fieldirrigationefficiencywouldbeoveres
timatedandthecontributionofprecipitationincropproductionwouldbeunderratediftheinteractiveblue
andgreenwatermigrationprocesswasignored.Themethodandresultsofthisstudycanprovideanew
approachfortheevaluationofcropwaterfootprintandagriculturalblueandgreenwateruseefficiency.
