Abstract:Athreedimensionalhydrodynamicmathematicalmodelandphysicalexperimentofthevertical
jetincircularpipewithnegativebuoyanteffectwasconductedinstillwater,andthecalculatednondi
mensionalverticalvelocityofthemodelwasingoodagreementwiththatoftheexperiment.Then ,thehy
drodynamiccharacteristicsofthenegativebuoyantjetwasanalyzedaccordingly.Theresultsshowedthat
withtheincreaseoftheinitialjetvelocityandthedecreaseoftheinitialjetdensityandthenozzleexitdi
ameter ,themaximumrisingheightandthesteadyheightincreased;however,theinitialjetvelocityand
initialjetdensityhadinsignificantinfluenceonthetimeandrateoftheverticalvelocitydecayatthecen
tralline.Withtheincreaseoftheinitialjetdensity ,theverticalvelocitydecayatthecentrallinetended
toarrivelateandthedecayrateincreased ;whereasithappenedearlyandtheratedecreasedatthemo
mentofbothmaximumrisingheightandsteadyheightwiththeincreaseofthenozzleexitdiameterforthe
scenarioofsteadyheight.Basedonthefindings,thedensityFroudenumberwasusedtoobtainthedi
mensionlesslinearrelationshipformulasforpredictingthemaximumrisingheightandthesteadyheightre
spectively.Theratioofthemaximumrisingheighttothesteadyheightwasclosetotheconstantof1.52 ,
whichwasroughlyindependentofthedensityFroudenumber.Theresearchaimstoshedsomelighton
thedesignandengineeringapplicationoftheverticaljetwithnegativebuoyanteffectinstillwater.
