                 Abstract:TopreventandcontrolthenonpointsourcepollutionintheNishanReservoirBasin,anestab
                 lishedandcalibratedSWATmodelwasutilizedtosimulatetheresultsofbestmanagementpractices
                 (BMPs),andtoanalyzethetemporalandspatialvariationcharacteristicsoftotalnitrogen(TN)andtotal
                 phosphorus (TP)reduction.Theresultsshowedthatthepracticesof50% reductionoffertilizeruse,ec
                 ologicalditch ,vegetationbufferzoneandreturningfarmlandtoforesthadasignificanteffectonthere
                 ductionofTNandTP,whichreducedtheTNandTPby48.22% and52.41%,36.86% and52.73%,
                38.31% and51.00%,45.17% and38.53%,respectively.ThemaximumreductionofTNandTPby
                 BMPswasinwetperiod(JunetoSeptember);however,differentBMPshadgreateffectsonthespatial
                 distributionofTNandTPreduction.Accordingtothecurrentsituationinthebasin ,thecombinedprac
                 ticesof50% reductionoffertilizeruse ,ecologicalditchandvegetationbufferzoneshouldbeappliedto
                 highriskpollutionareaswithabundantfarmlands,largerainfallandsteepslopes;whereasthecombined
                 lowcostpracticesofreductionoffertilizeruseandcontourcultivationshouldbearrangedforlowriskpol
                 lutionareas.Moreover ,returningfarmlandtoforestshouldbeactivelycarriedout.
